Cooperative economies have been a part of Durham for much of its history. Join citizens and residents of Durham to learn more about how cultivating a stronger cooperative business presence will improve our local economy and provide long-term benefit to our communities. A co-op is a business designed to create benefit for the people who participate directly in it, rather than for financial gains for absent investors. We will explore this distinctive aspect of cooperative enterprise, how different kinds of co-ops work, and different ways other American cities support cooperative development as a part of economic development policy. By the conclusion of this workshop, we will have identified specific actions to take towards the goal of a more cooperative Durham.
