The current Mayor, Bill Bell, is not running for reelection. So far, 4 candidates have announced they are running (listed in order that they announced their candidacy): 

  1. STEVE SCHEWEL - Current At-Large City Council Member (elected in 2011), former Member & Vice-Chair of Durham School Board (2004-08); co-founder of the Independent Weekly & Hopscotch Music Festival
  2. FARAD ALI - Former City Council Member from 2007-2011, current President and Chief Executive Officer at The Institute (Economic Development)
  3. PIERCE FREELON - A musician, professor and social entrepreneur; founder of Blackspace
  4. SHEA RAMIREZ - a tax preparer who owns the one-person agency Tax Genius and SHee’Bella Modeling & Talent Agency

The Ward 2 seat is currently held by Eddie Davis, who has announced he is not seeking reelection.
